Yorkshire Purchasing

Yorkshire Purchasing is the UK's largest local government purchasing organisation, with revenues in excess of 270 million per annum, and over 400 employs over 400 staff. . It offers a professional procurement service that enables their public sector customers to enjoy cost and efficiency savings through their substantial bulk buying power and the convenience of a 'one stop shop'. It supplies over 100 local government organisations with products and services for educational establishments in addition to all major local government departments such as social services, catering, transport, highways, building, energy, admin and waste management. YPO's Requirement

YPO wanted a website that gave their public sector clients access to their 20,000 stock, direct-order and, more recently, food items. They also required a web-based ecommerce system, integrated with their existing systems, that would complement the existing fax, phone, mail and EDI based purchasing methods. YPO wanted to place their 1,200 page main catalogue and and all of their mini catalogues, including furniture and specialist "Birth-to-5" online, and well as manage their INSET (In Service Teacher Training) course booking on-line too.


Because YPO's business is exclusively B-2-B and predominantly to the public sector, speed of ordering, and process efficiencies were of utmost importance, as was providing a service that was consistent with their establishing order processes.


eleventeenth's Solution

eleventeenth has produced three generations of Internet website for YPO, each moving the company and their clients forwards into the rapidly evolving world of electronic commerce. The systems have both gently ushered an occasionally "behind the curve" audience into electronic ordering, and at the same time featured some extremely specialist and bespoke features targeted specifically at the public sector procurement process. One such feature is order validation: aimed at the educational market this feature gives a purchase work flow that offers teachers the freedom to set-up orders and pass them to their line manager for validation and submission.


Organisations using off-line order management can still benefit from the simplicity of preparing order online thanks to the support of "content ordering" - an XML-based order messaging system compliant with the UKGov format. As Digital Marketplaces became more widely used by local authorities, eleventeenth enabled YPO to seamlessly work with these "punchout" systems using CXML-based integration.

In addition to professional procurement services, every year YPO hosts a range of teacher training INSET courses. eleventeenth provided an easy to use online booking system to streamline the management of these popular events. The advanced shopping basket provides YPO with the freedom to set up custom "favourite orders" to complement INSET courses and special edition catalogues.
